ANNOUNCEMENTS

Horizons Community Services will conduct its 11th Annual Conference on Lesbian and Gay Identity at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago on October 15 and 16; the first weekend after the National Day of Coming Out.

In the spirit of the National Day of Coming Out, the conference will be composed of over 40 workshops dealing with a wide range of subjects including AIDS, substance abuse, aging, political empowerment, community organizing, homophobia, anti-gay and antilesbian violence, counseling, inter-racial relationships, alternative families, lesbian choosing children, gay and lesbian youth issues, general health concerns, and other topics.

Entitled "Out in the Heartland: Taking the Next Step," this year's conference will be regional in scope. This will also be the first conference to run two days instead of only one.

The conference is intended to give people from all over the Midwest a chance to meet and discuss concerns and priorities, and to provide an occasion to share knowledge and resources. It is also intended to increase national awareness of Midwestern lesbian and gay views and

concerns.

A Resource Fair for organizations to promote their services and activities, will be featured at the conference, as will entertainment, films, a dance and other events.

People interested in presenting workshops would call Horizons Community Services at (312) 472-6469 and request a Workshop Proposal Form.

The Network of Gay and Lesbian Alumni/ae Associations (NetGALA), a national association of lesbian and gay alumni/ae groups, has announced its new referral service to help individual graduates wishing to make contact with their college or university GALA.

NetGALA has found that a large number of graduates do not know whether or not there is a GALA for their college or university, if there is one they do not know how to make contact with it, or they are unaware how to contact others from their college or university who may be interested in forming one.

NetGALA is aware of nearly all the GALAS with contact names and addresses. In some cases where there is no GALA, NetGALA has contacts for individuals who are interested in starting a GALA.

Alumni/ae who wish to make contact with their college/university GALA, or who wish to start a GALA, should send a stamped self addressed envelope along with their college/university affiliation and year of graduation to: NetGALA, P.O. Box 15141, Washington, D.C. 20003.

In other news NetGALA has announced its incorporation in the District of Columbia as a national nonprofit organization.

NetGALA is a cooperating organization of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF).

Further information on NetGALA and its goals and programs may be obtained by writing to NetGALA at the address given above.
